National Gallery of Art, Union Station

Bride and groom kissing beneath flowering trees in a black-and-white wedding portrait

Washington DC is not the first city that comes to mind when most people think about eloping. And that is exactly what makes it so extraordinary. The architecture alone feels like it was built for moments like this.

This elopement session moved through some of the most iconic locations the city has to offer. Union Station with its sweeping arched colonnades and dramatic light. The National Mall with cherry blossoms in full bloom and the Washington Monument rising in the distance. The National Gallery of Art with its soaring interiors, ornate staircases, and old master paintings as a backdrop for some of the most intimate portraits I have ever been part of capturing.

Lucia wore a stunning off the shoulder tea length gown with delicate lace heels and carried a vibrant bouquet of coral roses that was pure joy against the clean white of her dress. They moved through the city like it belonged to them. In a way, for one afternoon, it did.

Washington DC is an absolute dream destination for couples that want to be surrounded in history. If you are considering the city for your day, I would love to help you plan it.
